I'm new here. I've been brewing for just under two years and have gone through alot of growth during that time. I've recently put an order in for 110 lbs of grain. 2 row and pilsen. I have limited space in my home so I'm forced to store it in my shed. I'm in Lexington, Kentucky so the weather should be kind to me as far as temps go over the next few months. What is the best way to store high volumes of grain? Airtight or not, freeze or not, airtight container and add a bit of dry ice in to fill it with CO2?
Whats the best route? I'm going to be doing quite a few batches over the next few months but 1 guy can only drink so much beer........
Your expertise is appreciated. Also has any one had any luck toasting base grains in the oven?
 
I think Laughing Gnome Invisible had a thread on toasting grain - you might search through his threads or just do a general search toasting grains at home.

I store my grain in my basement, up to 165 lbs at a time. I leave it in it's original bag, put it within another heavy duty plastic bag, and then put the whole thing inside a large plastic bin with a lid. Simple, inexpensive, and has worked for me.
 
It's always better to store it in the original bag, but if that's not possible, Home Depot buckets and garbage bag. Air tight so the grain doesn't go stale in a moderate to cool temp.
 
Store them cool and dry. No need to go overboard. Keep away from critters.

I use 5 pounds of toasted malt in my "Captain Hooked on Bitters" recipe (dropdown). Must have done okay as it took first in English Pale Ales a few years back.
