Hmmmmm...... guys, I think I am cutting it too close for ordering.

The last time I ordered from AHSm it was a Tuesday. The package left the building on Thursday, and was delivered on the following Tuesday.

If this is a reliable indication of the next order, it will NOT arrive before I leave, and that might be a major problem. (Imagine 100+ lbs of grain sitting outside on my doorstep for 1.5 weeks.)

I suppose I could try and have them put it inside the garage (leaving the side door unlocked), but I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing.

Sure, but I'm still at the mercy of UPS which is busy with the Xmas workload.

I would like to bring my rig and brew, space permitting. If santa brings me some ball valves, I may even be able to do a 10 gallon batch. Otherwise, it'll be a 5er for me. Also, depending on the weather we could use the driveway as well to free up some more space inside the garage. Just a thought. Someone consult the farmer's almanac and report back.

I am down to do a 10 gallon batch (it's kinda fun) but currently my keggle doesn't have a ball valve. I am hoping to get one for Christmas, but if I don't I won't be able to use a CFC and be stuck using an IC and I know there were some flooding concerns so I'm not sure if I will be able to use it without the valve. In short, I am more than happy to do a 10 gallon batch if I can.
Walker, if we brew in the garage, would it be possible to use an IC? Let's start there...

I'm not trying to answer for Walker but I think the IC would be flowing water into the street so it shouldn't be a big deal... At least I think that's what he had said.

Since it's looking like we're going to be making over 30 gallons of beer, I want to minimize waste water as much as possible... not because of the lawn, but just because of the huge volume of water we are talking about.

I am borrowing a pump so that we can use rain barrel water for chilling (would work for both IC and CFC) instead of fresh water, and we can pump the output back into the rain barrel. No waste.

Also, I think Boston will have a march pump by the time we brew, so even if you have no spigot on your kettle, you might still be able to use a CFC if you say "pretty please".

Sweet! Any idea on how long all that water will take to heat up? OK, who paid attention in thermo?

It'll depend on the temp of the water in the barrel, but I have two 55gal barrels available to use. There is always the option of using idle IC's in ice-baths to get even better cooling with the barrel water.

EDIT: back of envelop calculation says we should be able to chill 20 gallons before the water in the barrel gets too warm. As for how LONG we would have to recirculate water, I don't know. I'm just calculating the cooling potential of 110 gallons of water in the barrel.

As for hops, I can tack anything we want onto this order. Discounts on hops don't kick in until you get 1lb.

What do we need 1lb of?

Ooooo... I didn't realize they had discounts for a lb. I PMed you with what I'd like. I can probably do with part of a lb of some of the hops in my PM; or probably any number of other hops I missed. And there is a sale on some hops by the oz so don't overlook that.

I saw Boston's comment, as well... Didn't get it but figured it was an inside joke. Or something... Then I remembered that Boston wasn't exactly "all there." Or, as we say in the South, "that boy ain't right."

If someone who posts after you needs the same thing, add it to a total quantity so Walker can keep a running total and we can more easily figure if we have a full sack of grain or ~10oz of hops... And try to keep the item numbers and prices in the post along with your total. Walker is being nice about this so let's make it easier on him. Mmmkay...

Man I can't believe I missed this thread, I've been following the grabass community for a while but have always had conflicts with getting in on a brew, should have spoken up before walker imposed the cap. If its closed to more brewers I will still try and stop by, be nice to meet some fellow brewers, that is if the brewing is absoluteley closed!

Anyways, if anybody needs to get hooked up on some hops, I have a good bit of hallertauer, cascade, centennial and chinook. If you need any of these let me know and I can probably hook it up. Hope to meet some people soon!

Yup. That's exactly what I was just thinking.

Jmp; I put a cap on it because I really don't have the space to just keep setting up brewstands.

I was just out in the garage, and I can handle 5... *Maybe* 6 if the weather is good and we can set one up just outside the garage on the small amount of non-sloped driveway.

The other option is to get in on a double batch with me or perhaps Chad. I don't know if Chad can (or will want) to do a 10 gallon batch, but I did one in my system last week, so I know it's possible.

I'm really starting to worry about water consumption, I must admit.
