OK I can get myself a free chest freezer (if I ever get off me lazy arse and hump it out of my mother in laws basement) and after thinking about Brewpasters tapper arangement I got an idea. I have been planning on building a bar in the basement so why not just build a nice enclosure for the freezer throw some kegs into it and use the freezer as a bar?

I'm thinking of putting a wooden box sort of thing on the serving side of the top to run the taps through instad of towers and then using the main portion of the top as the bartop, but still make it so that I can lift the bar top and reload the kegs when needed.

Any suggestions or am I just wasting my time?

Sounds like a plan to me. You might want to build a bit of an overhang on the bar side so your friends knees don't constantly bump the front side of it. Looks like a fun project!

I had a similar idea, currently my downstairs bar is a piece of junk with the freezer stuffed in one corner. I wanted to build a six-inch collar to run the taps through and then surround the entire freezer with the bar. I knew I would have to leave some empty space on either side of the freezer, that would also leave me space to store the CO2 tank.
The biggest problem I could think of would be the bar top. I would either have to leave part of it hinged so I could raise it with the freezer lid, or I would have to have the freezer on castors and roll it out from under the bar to change taps or whatever. The hinged top would make it easier to access, but weight may be a problem.
Currently I am thinking of making the bar modular. The main piece would surround the freezer and lift up with the lid. Two smaller pieces would be on either side for storage; mixers, glasses, napkins, etc.

In any case, keep us updated with the plans, I have a vested interest in seeing someone pull this off.
