My girlfriend was in Grand Rapids over the weekend and brought me back 2 bottles of smoked Porter and a bottle of Sweet Repute from Founders! I'm gonna crack one of the porters tonight and age the other one for a year or so. I'm gonna hold onto the Sweet Repute for a special occasion - Its a wheat wine that was aged in Bourbon and maple syrup barrels for 16 months then blended. I can't wait to try it. 1391360951980.jpg

Anyone ever tried either of these?

Good stuff. Had the smoked porter the other day in the taproom. If you like te regular Founders porter, I think you'll like the smoked version. It isn't too heavy on the smoke.

The Sweet Repute is good, too. It's a little too sweet for me right now, though. Hopefully some extended aging will mellow it a bit.

I just noticed you're in Detroit - both of these should be distributed there. Do you not get the backstage stuff?

I live downtown and I am yet to find a good beer store within a reasonable distance. It took calling a dozen stores last week to find a sixer of Dirty Bastard. I'll have to check some of the specialty stores next time I'm farther north in the Oakland County area.

I used to live in Grand Rapids for 6 months and that was the time I really got hooked on beer. Although I now live a block and a half from the Detroit Beer Co., it will never compare to being surrounded by so many great breweries in GR.

Those both look incredible if you havent had founders imperial stout it would be a good one to put on the gotta try list.

I cracked one of the smoked porters on Sunday and split it with my brother who also knows and loves his beer. We were both pretty excited to try it and unfortunately were both a little let down. For being a backstage series from Founders I expected a little more. Not sure what, but just something a little different. It was still a great porter, but it wasn't much different than their regular porter but with an additional abv kick. I put the other bottle in the basement and will pull it out next Christmas and see how it is.

Do you have any Meijer's stores nearby? They stock Dirty Bastard all the time in my area.
