I just bottled a batch of robust porter and I'm very happy with the taste. Nice roasty, coffee notes. The smell weirds me out though; it smells exactly like soy sauce. I have no clue what would cause it, anyone have an idea or had this happen to them? Recipe below. Thanks!

8# Dark LME
0.75# Crystal 80
0.75# Chocolate Malt
0.5# Black Patent
2.5oz Fuggles
Wyeast 1099

When did fermentation start? How long has it conditioned? That smell is yeast related so if it hasn't conditioned very long I would give it some time in the bottle to go through it's phases again and condition for awhile...at least 4 weeks.

It fermented ~3 weeks before bottling. I'm assuming it'll condition out, I'm mostly just curious about the cause.

When I Kegged my porter I noticed the same thing, taste was there smell was soy sauce.

Been Kegged and chilled for two weeks, tastes and smells great now.
