hi,
Last weekend we did an ahs citrus ipa all grain, did the usual procedure and missed my og by .001 pts!, s/b 1.059, was 1.058. as we were finishing up we decided to try a 2nd running( not sure of the terminology), just to see if it would work, yada,yada,yada... . Ok after the appearance of the krausen on both batches, the orig. looked normal , but the .."LIGHT BEER " was shinny and almost looked like plastic, oh yeah the O.G. on the 2nd was 1.020 and we used about 1000ml of the 2 ltr starter. Any ideas? fermentation on both started in less than 12 hrs.

could be that there's less proteins and other compounds in the second wort which might affect the structure of the krausen... no idea really though.

I've seen kraeusen in a lot of forms, and "shiny" is one of them.

I don't specifically know what would cause your two batches to look different, but I wouldn't be worried about it.
