I was walking with a girly girl acquaintance and I told her about my beer making. One comment she said was that she tasted a homebrew before and it was bitter and she said I should try making a sweet one. In the back of my mind I was thinking that was probably an IPA or a home brewers hophead special, but not a mistake.

So a few days later I went to test the gravity of my fermenting ale in which I had over-diluted the extract. It was light and still sweet. The bitterness did not come through. So I recalled what my friend said at that moment and thought OMG this is going to be a girly beer, can't bring the boys over to share this/ But then I though again: maybe the un tapped market is girly ales. Stella and bud light seem to have the lager market corners. Breaking the girl/ale frontier is next for the commerical brewers.
 
Funny, SWMBO just told me tonight I should make a beer with little to no hops. Basically a malty girly beer.

haha. the girl not only loves her hops, but is the co-brewer. but hey, who doesn't love a hefe or kolsch? I certainly do.
 
I would call myself a hop head, i have brewed many beers with over a pound of hops, But i also enjoy a good porter with an ounce or less bittering hops and nothing else.

My woman is also my Co Brewer, she is NOT a hop head, but the girl does love her Amarillo and would use it in every brew i make if she had her way.
 
My younger sister (she's 23, I'm 27) drinks lite BMC type beers pretty exclusively, but enjoyed a buddy's Kolsch when we poured her one. I could see that being a good gateway beer.
 
My wife loves all sort of beers. Not sure "girly" means a lot- a lot of dudes drink BMC and don't like "bitter" beers. That said, Scottish Ale, Irish Red, and Milk Stout are great beers for someone who's not accustomed to a hefty hop presence.
 
Sounds just like my wife. She keeps asking me to brew beers without hops. My very first beer was a pre-hopped extract beer that I boiled all the hops out of and she loved it.
 
My better half kept bothering me to make her a beer, something sweet or fruity. I used a recipe for an apricot blonde I found on here, but used peach puree in the secondary instead, with apricot extract at bottling. Worrying about it being too sweet, I racked it onto a pale ale yeast cake. I know that won't add alot of bitterness, but maybe take the edge off.
Let's hope she likes it, it'll be ready next week for her bday!
 
The girlfriend's favorite beer is a "belgian" double IPA or whatever they're being called now. Basically a a hop bomb of a double IPA, 2 oz of warrior for bittering and 2oz of simcoe, 1oz of cascade, and 1oz for aroma/flavor, dry hopped with either warrior or simcoe. It is not for the faint of heart; even when underpitched with Chimay yeast to make the yeasty belgian flavors come out, it's hop decimation.
