I finally got a kegerator now and like to just keep some basic ales on tap for my friends that think Miller Lite is a premium beer. I just make basic pale and amber ales for them and try to slowly condition them into other beers :)
I was just looking for a yeast that would be good all around for these basic types of ales.

If I buy a liquid yeast I can wash and reuse. Or would I be just as well off using a dry yeast like Nottingham.

Thanks

Seconded.

You can wash and reuse dry yeast too, by the way. After you pitch it, there's really no difference between dry and liquid yeasts.

05 is an excellent all around American ale yeast. I never wash and save dry yeast. For the cost of a new packet, it just ain't worth it to me.

Notty does pretty well in a wide range of ale styles. It may not give that award winning character to each, but it's pretty versatile especially if your audience is as described.
