G'day im just a new member been brewing for around 6 months.

haven't got one on the go cuase its too damn hot and too hard to keep the temp down so i will just put a dint in the supplies for now. Hopefully i will have enough to see me through the hot days.

if any body's got any advice on keeping the temp down it would be great.

:mug:

Hi there and welcome to HBT.
I've put a wet t-shirt over my carboy with a fan blowing on it. If I keep the t-shirt wet, the temp drops a bit. I use a spray bottle to keep the shirt wet.
I have the opposite problem right now. My fermentation area is in my basement and it is 62F (17C). :mug:

Cascade Draught is my main tipple - not very tasty but not as offensive as the rest of them! Cascade Brewery is ok - seems to win a lot of awards also, even their light beer is very drinkable (even go so far to say that it tastes better than the draught but I end up drinking about 20 of them!)

Been drinking Moo Brew and Hoegaarden for the last couple of days. Just printed off a clone of Hoegaarden which I may have a shot at. There is only one homebrew store in Hobart and I hope that they have all the stuff.

Do you ever use mailorder?

First off welcome. There is some great intelligence and experience here. I continue to learn everyday from here.

Second... I would kill for your weather right now...

Northern US here and though it has been relatively very warm I cannot stand winter! I wouldn't mind 70-80s year round (excuse the archaeic Ferenheit :cross: )

whoops, forgot to give your question a go!

I agree with the t-shirt in some water with a fan. Some people also put their vessel in another vessel of water for a temperature buffer. A few here even do that to lager by placing frozen water bottles in the water everyday!!

any access to a below ground facility? or even a backhoe :cross:

Good luck when you decide to brew! Good or bad, you can make it much better by making your next batch!!

Welcome kleinbeer. There are ways to keep your fermenting stable during the summer months. Either an old fridge with a controller on it or what I use; a fermentation chiller. Easy enough to make but you need the space for it.

When it's 42c outside it stays a nice cool 20c inside the chiller which is in my garage.

Cooling the wort in summer is another problem. ;)

Thanks guys for the help

i currently put the fermenter in an old non working chest freezer which gives some stability so i might try wacking a few frozen soft drink bottles in each day before it gets too hot.

Dibby i havent yet got used mail order but ive got a couple of good home brew shops in shepp and the grain and grape in melbourne seem all right, im going their at the end of Jan they may have mail order.

Cheers, I will check them out. I never like single sourcing for anything.
