Gas Quick Disconnect leaks if pushed on... normal?

Just filled my first keg! Pretty stoked, using the set it and forget it method. I have my regulator set to 11psi, and I've leak tested all my connections and they look good.

When i was moving the keg into the back of the fridge the Gas QD got bumped and I heard it his. So I leak tested it and it's fine, but if I apply pressure in a certain direction I can get a light hissing out of it. Now I assume since it appears sealed normally, i don't plan on bumping this things around much if at all... that i am ok. i just want to see if this is normal. I'm thinking it's just like if I were trying to remove the QD, it's gonna hiss until I unlock it and remove it.

It's a kit from kegconnection that came pressurized. I just want to double check.

if the post oring is used, i would go to the hardware and get some new ones. and keg appropriate lube is your best friend. are you sure it is venting to atmosphere and not just replacing the head space as the beer absorbs the gas??

I have had this happen with my Pin lock disconnects. Everything is fine until you push on the side of the gas disconnect and then you will hear the sound of gas leaking. Never had it happen with my Ball locks though. As long as the disconnect isn't resting against anything in the cooler and the hose isn't to stiff and putting pressure on it, it will be fine. I've never lost any CO2. The pin locks that I had the problems with are still under pressure and the 5# tank has dispensed and carbed 8 kegs so far.

The O-rings technically should be brand new... at least that's what's stated on the KC site.

They are the same way as your pins... if i push on the sides it leaks a little. Am I supposed to lube the disconnects as well?

Lube the o-ring on the post. That is what seals the disconnect when it is locked on the post. Mine are new o-rings and are lubed, but pin locks will still leak when they have pressure against the side. The liquid side has three pins which keeps it from moving side to side. The gas post only has two pins, so any pressure from side to side will cause a rocking motion on the post. It will leak no matter how much you lube it. Just keep it straight and don't allow any pressure against it and it will be fine.

I have similar leaky post problems when disconnects are jostled slightly. My liquid lines are also subject to the leaks that come from slight jostling of disconnects. what did you find to solve your leaky post/disconnect problem?

Pretty simple solution, I stopped pressing on the post! No leaks (and I replaced the o ring

sometimes mine do the same thing when the hoses put pressure on them in a funny way- i just do what you do - try not to do that. But every now and then, it's a good idea to change rubbers- just like deodorants, and especially if they're full.

I tracked this answer down on another thread regarding the same issue. and I'm thinking I am going to track down some green o-rings. thanks for the replies guys.

The o rings they (keg connection) send along with their kegging kits are too small for pin locks. Nothing should leak when you wiggle the post. The green ones from williams brewing work good, or size some up at a hardware store. Suppose someone should let kegconnection know whats up with their o rings if they don't know already. I lost a couple tanks of gas and a keg of beer before my dumb ass figured it out. Guess i just assumed that the o rings they provided so kindly were the correct ones.

interesting, im having the same issue (from kegconnection too). Ill get some new o rings, and try not to hit the tubing.

I've ordered "replaced o-rings" kegs that have obviously had used o-rings on them. They look new but when examined and flexed, they have little cracks. I think some companies inspect them and if they look new, they ship as new.

If anyone knows what size o-rings these are, that info would be much appreciated. I traded 10 gals of Irish red for 10 pin lock kegs. Now, it would cost a fortune to replace all the posts vs just buying the correct size o-rings.

Please let us know. I notice they want $0.50 each. That's pretty hefty price tag. Considering you can get silicone pack of 167 for $5... That means it would cost $84 to get the same amount from Williams brewing. I am willing to pay more for good stuff but not willing to pay that much more.

oh wow that is pricey when you think of it. I just looked at it as "only 46 cents plus shipping to fix my leak ?!" hahha. Mine will be here thursday, ill update then.

Also, just wanted to confirm that the leak i was having was a result of the oring/QD (posted in another thread as well), but with some ridiculous amount of lube as i wait for my other orings, the leak has completely stopped.

Thats the one thats working for me. Might get away with a hair bigger id or thickness even. Hope this helps!
