Over the weekend I bottled my first ever brew. I've read that keeping carbonating at room temperature is preferable, so placed it covered in a dark closet that stays around 68-72F and forgot about it.

Falling asleep last night, I started worrying about bottle bombs, so decided to move the bottles to my, now empty, fermentation chamber and set it to 70F.

Awoke up this morning to a house that was sitting at a "mildly" chilly 57F... it's -22F outside right now. Turns out a gas line broke due to cold weather and it will take a few days to fix...

Glad to know that my beer is sitting at a cozy 70F, while my wife, dog and I are wrapped up in as many blankets and parkas we can find...

I guess I can thank my beer anxiety for waking me up in the middle of the night!

If your fermentation is done and you are using the correct amount of priming sugar you should be fine * :tank:

*i had my first bottle bomb last week, must have been a bad bottle, beer was very light on the carbination.

Ah yes, priorities! :) as long as the beer is OK , we are OK!

Your fermentation chamber can only heat so much higher than ambient room temps. If your house heat is out and your house gets down to -20°, then your beer will probably be a nice 0°, depending on how powerful your heater for the fermentation chamber is.

If the house gets down to -20F, we are moving South! The heating element is simply a wrap placed inside the cooler. Although the thermometer is stating ambient temp of the cooler at 70F, I doubt this is the case. Will likely be investing in a heating lamp or something.

I'd go with a simple 100w light bulb. Those things heat up tiny spaces amazingly well.

Good call, someone also mentioned placing it inside a pant can helps radiate heat?

Any tips on heating the rest of the house in-lieu of gas? Haha

Electric blanket and you wife

Fire place

Bum fireplace (barrel with a fire) does get the house a bit smoky though

Seriously, several portable electric heaters. Your energy bill will suffer but they will keep pipes, pets and plants from freezing.

Skin to skin contact under a warm blanket. :mug:

**I claim no responsibility for the results of said heating method:D**

Haha, thanks...let's see if beer can survive under my guise before we introduce other life forms!
