Hey guys - I was just taking a look at my 80/- Ale that I racked to secondary a few days ago and found a strange looking, greyish substance that I had never seen before. It's a fairly large layer on top of some of the yeast that has already flocculated, and it appears in some of the ridges along the sides of the carboy as well.

I've attached a picture of what I'm talking about to help with the identification. I didn't do anything differently when racking this beer, so I'm at a loss here. Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

Also, my apologies if this is in the wrong forum, please move as necessary.

I'm pretty sure what you are seeing is yeast that is falling but sticking to the sides of the carboy. It looks gray because you are looking through a film of it in to a darker beer.

I guess the color just threw me off a bit. Now I'm a little embarrassed. I know, I know, RDWHAHB :)

Thanks guys
