Funky Rye: Using the word incorrectly? Synonym?

When I first hit on a Rye beer I brew, I was tickled to death that I'd brewed something I'd rather have than what I can get in the local watering hole.

I named it Funky Rye. It's quirky, it's different, it's good! There have been two iterations, Funky Rye II and Funky Rye III. All are excellent, but Funky II is the best.

I've since learned that "funk" means something else in brewing, pertaining primarily to sour beers. I am not a fan of sours, so that's not what I meant when I named it. In my defense, I named it very early in my brewing experience, so who knew? Not me.

It is not funky in the sense of a wild brew, or sour beer, or anything like that. It's just kind of offbeat and different (and, IMO, very good).


Do you think it misrepresents what that beer is about to call it "Funky" Rye, and if so should I change it? And if so, to what?

6 oz Chocolate Wheat
4 oz Flaked Rye
1 Scoop Rice Hulls
.5 oz Columbus 60 min
.5 oz Columbus 20 min
1 oz Styrian Celeia 10 min
Wyeast 2112 or WL810 (starter)

Well. Here I sit drinking a pint of Cream of Three Crops, and I could be drinking a Mongoose Rye. Or whatever.

I'll go pour myself one and try to offer you some detailed tasting notes. I don't know that I'm very good at that, but I'll give it a shot. One thing is certain: if you like Rye whisky (which I do), then you'll probably like this.

Back in a few with some as-I'm-drinking-it observations.

OK. Below is a pic showing how it presents.

Tasting notes: Nice spicy nose. Malty, good mouth feel. The rye spiciness is, in some ways, similar to a hoppy taste. Finishes dry. ABV is 6.5%.
