I’ve now fixed two freezers just by replacing the compressor overload relay. Try it before junking your freezer if it stops working!
 
The compressor died on mine. I can only get it to start by beating the compressor as hard as possible with a hammer while it’s trying to start 😆 Yes, it has a softball sized dent in it now, and yes, it did make me feel a bit better.

However, I do agree with you; most failures are due to the relay, motor start capacitor, or a need for a recharge.
