Found a commercial type quarter keg in my shed. Anyone use these for home brew? .

Seems like it would be a pain to clean, fill, etc Is there a market to sell or trade these for old soda kegs?

Do you mean a 15.5 gallon keg or something smaller? Lots of folks cut the tops off the 15.5 gallon kegs and use them for brew kettles ("keggles").

You can remove the spear, clean and fill, carbonate and serve using a Sanke connector. Works great!

By remove the spear, do you mean pull out the feed tube? I pulled this out and have the keg cleaned up and ready to be used, but I imagine that there has to be a better way to remove the little metal snap ring that holds the tube in place. Is there a special tool / process for doing this? I just pried it out with a screw driver, but seems like after a few times of doing this the ring will be garbage.

No, it's much smaller. Looks to be about the same size as my 5 gallon soda kegs (a little taller but maybe slightly skinnier).

Removing the spiral ring is a little tricky at first, but with practice it becomes very simple using a small sharp screwdriver, be gentle - DO NOT BEND THE SPIRAL RING! Installing the ring is also tricky at first, but becomes simple with practice and basic tools....Check out this write-up by Clutchdude.

There are special tools $$$, but IME they are not needed.
