Found a cheap, full, 20# co2 tank at a yardsale...

The seller said he obtained it from a storage unit sale, and his yardsale was a bunch of tables setup along a highway in southern maryland... ha.

Do I trust that the gas in this rando tank is actually co2? Its says its a cocoa cola tank, and has a yellow ‘seal’ cap on it... just a bitskeptical given the circumstances!

I got a 20# in a similar situation, used it, no issues. What could crept into a highly pressurized tank.

The CO2 will most likely be OK. The problem will be getting it refilled. I have three 20# tanks that are stamped "CCE". Coca Cola Enterprises. There was legal litigation preventing anyone from re-filling them. Something along the lines that they were stolen, or some other gigantic company BS, and they are Coca Cola property. Regardless of how they were "legally" obtained.

If you are able to get them filled, more power to you. Don't count on it forever though.

Carefully (!) open the valve a little and let a little CO2 out, then close it. Smell around it. Chances are the CO2 is fine.

Is Coca-Cola also stamped in the neck, or is it just that sticker? Sticker can be removed a stamp cannot.

Once it's empty you may indeed have some trouble getting it filled or swapped, although some filling stations don't care as long as the testing date hasn't expired. At that point you'll need to get it hydro tested, or swap it out. Some places may swap out for a full one without a question.

Call around and take it from there.
