Here I am, minding my own business and scuzzing up the forums with the occasional half-informed rehash of old HBT dogma, piece of questionable brewing advice, bad joke, stupid question, or comment about video games, offering to write front page articles (are those even a thing anymore?) on brewing in China and then never following through, when I see the "Forum Supporter" tag underneath my username. I certainly never paid for that, so who's the wise guy? Come on, fess up!

The rub is trying to figure out what there is to say: how is my brewing experience materially different from brewers in the States and how do I communicate that without descending into a bunch of links to taobao shops like when I offer advice to new brewers in China?

I'm not sure too many people in the US give a rats behind about shops in China, but you may be doing a big favor to brewers in China by supplying that information.

And I think plenty of people in the US would be curious to see how someone might need to do things differently in China vs here.

For some reason I often think you're the one who is involved in editing for the front page when it's actually @drainbamage, and since a front page article can be compensated with a year's membership I thought you must have comped me a year in order to motivate me to get off my butt and write the damn article already.

Both drainbamage and I were involved in the front page editing as part of the volunteer editing team last year, before the hiatus. I can't speak for him, but as far as I know, your ascension has little to do with that.

I just like taking credit for things that I am entirely uninvolved with.

Looks like I've got some paying it forward to do, though the same Paypal issues that prevented me from paying for my own membership in past years mean it's probably not gonna be in the form of surprise HBT memberships...
