Forced air fridge conversion instead of chill plate?

Tired of my chill plate modified kegerator box, it it possible to dismantle any types of old fridges to grab the cooling unit and use it? I'm assuming this is rather difficult as I don't recall seeing anyone doing this off the top of my head.

I have seen a few threads where people have removed the compressor and cooling units from mini fridges and build a chest around them. Unfortunately, no one has a write-up on HOW they removed the hardware. If you could get your hands on diagrams of the internals of the mini fridge you could probably strip it down and get the parts you need without damaging it.

EDIT: If you have a full size fridge, you can probably do the same thing, but it would take a lot more work.
