Good Morning Sir,
I am new to home brewing and noted several items you have for sale in this forum.
Currently I have no equipment for home brewing, I thought you might have a few items to get me started.
What basic items do you recommend? I plan to start with basics like Applejack, and Mead.
I don't live to far away, in Harrison Twp. Between Mt.Clemens and St. Clair Shores.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Rick Miller

Hello

If you are just starting out, a couple of car boys would be good to get you started. First question is do you plan to bottle or keg? Next, is just personal preference: plastic or glass?

I started with plastic buckets for ease (easy to clean), but did not like the idea of fermenting in plastic (although I never had any off flavors in plastic). Glass carboys are tricky to clean but not impossible. If you are going to bottle you will want the plastic bottling bucket, it has a spigot at the bottom that you can hook a hose up to for bottling.

In terms of the freebies, you will want:
  • Carboy carriers for all size carboys (if you go glass)
  • Brew Hauler straps (if you go glass)
  • Funnel (if you go glass)
  • Various sanitizers BTF
  • Bucket opener (if you go plastic)
  • Airlocks (good for both plastic and glass)
  • Box 12, 22oz Bottles (if you plan to bottle)
  • Rubber stoppers, w & w/o airlock hole (for glass)
  • Book The Homebrewers Companion – Papazian (great all around book for beginner or intermediates, geared towards beer but touches on Meade and other non beer ferments)

Sean

Hi Sean ,
Thanks for quick response. I have done a little reading, and have in my mind a few pieces of equipment, I think I may need to get started;
Carboys....lg.& sm.
Air locks for carboys during fermintation?
Plastic fermentation bucket, and lid with vent.
Sanitizers (BFT?)
Funnel
Bucket opener.
Book on home brewing.
Not familiar with carboy carriers, or brew haulers straps.

I thought I would use glass bottles. I've been using Grocery bottles for Maple Syrup for many years. I still have a few empties.

I believe I could run over or meet you in near future for purchase of a few items
Send PM if you can, and ill give you my cell number.
Thanks

Sean, I could use a hydrometer cup, and hydrometer if you have one. I have a couple but they are for syrup and sap.
Thx

Hi Rick
I’m pretty sure I sold my refractometer and hydrometer with my brew set earlier this year, but I’ll double check. You can text me and I can send detailed pictures, discuss items in more detail, or answer any questions. I’m home around 630 most days but can leave stuff on the porch for pickup. Whatever is most convenient for yo.
