I have a lot of bag rolls left but haven't priced them yet. I too fear what they charge. Someone mentioned Walfart having some other style that works as well. Will have to surf and see how much the original mfg sells them for?

I think that was Dude that claimed that the generic bags from Walmart worked just fine with the foodsaver's.

My wife and I buy sirloins and huge chunks of meat and mix/grind our own burgers.

I weigh them on my digital scale then vacuum seal them in 1 lb bags. After they're sealed you can push the beef flat and into the corners. Lay them flat in the freezer. After they are frozen you can stack them or stand them up like library books.:D

every brewer should have one! I use it for every brewing item I use and steak! although fresh hops get crushed pretty bad.

I buy bulk grain/DME online and split it up when I get it and store in a cool place - sweet! if you need 1/2 lb open a 1lb bag pour out 1/2lb and reseal.

I've used cheapo bags to the branded ones they all work the same. worth every penny

Hell-- I've REsealed bags of chips, chicken breasts, veggies---- there are few bags you can't reseal with this thing. Some don't hold teh vacuum well but they all seal pretty good.

I've always had a Food Saver and use it for all the reasons listed about. Just wanted to note that they keep improving the settings on it. The very first one out had one setting and would crush the piss out of anything that didn't have some substance to it. The new ones have settings for delicate items as well as liquids.

I'll be replacing my flooded Food Saver when I get back in my house.

On mine it autodetects it but you can override the pump by hitting the 'seal' button, which turns on the heat sealer.
