I'm building a fly sparge arm this weekend for my rectangular mash tun/cooler & am curious to hear everyone's opinion. I'm basically creating a little grid of PVC which will sprinkle the water from the HL tank on to the grain bed. Nothing fancy as it's been done a million times. The question is whether using PVC is okay in this application instead of CPVC? One of my friends who is a plumber said CPVC should be used when water temp will be hot (I think he said > 140 degrees). He also said the only reason is because the hot water causes the glued joints to fail with regular PVC. Because I am not gluing my joints (so that I can easily take it apart and clean it), we agreed PVC is fine for this application. Thoughts?

I'd do a temp test as I think regular PVC will soften at a much lower temp than CPVC.
I just googled it... looks like regular starts getting soft at about 130 degrees. I'd use CPVC.

I've built a sparge arm the way you are describing with no problems. I used it for years before I upgraded my equipment. It came loose every once in a while and wasn't a big deal, it pops back into place; it served its purpose for years
