Howdy

Long time reader of the forum, first time brewer, so I decided I should join up and get in on the action!

Three days ago, I brewed my first beer at home, a modified Oktoberfest recipe I found online. I added a touch of honey and modified the hop timing just a bit, plus boiled for another twenty minutes to mix the honey in really well. Og was 1.085 by the looks of it, and my yeast took off like a rocket, bubbling like mad before I went to bed later that night.

Really glad I had a blow off tube on there because it was blowing stuff off like mad. Didn't lose much if any beer though, from the looks of it.

Anyways, hello, and I look forward to getting to know people on here and making more beer!

Attached are pictures of my brew. I haven't loaded them to photobucket yet, so I can't just do the image, so I apologize if it comes out messed up or something.

As long as you sanitized thoroughly you should be fine. Higher gravity beers tend to have a more intense ferment. Just make sure that your temp is not too high (below 70)

Nice! Welcome to the forum! That is a pretty neat blow off tube. One thing you may want to invest in is a BrewHauler for your fermenter. It makes lugging them around so much more convenient!

Yeah, its locally made in Orlando, fl, works great!

My current temp at the fermenter has been sitting between 62 and 66 degrees. The beer is really clearing up, and it looks like there are currents running through it or something. Stuff just keeps flowing from top to bottom then back up. Must be a party in there.

Awesome! Sounds like you have a healthy fermentation! I used to use a towel for my swamp cooler also but I recently switched to a t-shirt. I feel like the t-shirt is more effective at cooling than the towel. Just something to consider. I know a lot of guys use towels but I like the t-shirt method better.

Brew On! :mug:
