Took a sample out of a 2 1/2 week old primary fermentation; first one in years. Hopped extract kit, dark ale with 1.5# corn sugar .5# brown sugar and brewed coffee added.

Used a beer theif that works like a bottle filler in reverse and snags the sample out for you. There was a TON of stuff floating in the sample, think taking a sample from a stagnant pond full of stuff.

Sample tasted ok, not yeasty. Hoping that all that floatie stuff was all pulled up from the bottom of the bucket. Do I need to start figuring out how to drop the floaties to the bottom or am I having premature worry-lation?

They'll drop to the bottom. Just give it another week or two. Patience is the most frustrating aspect of this hobby.

+1 for patience. The floaties (most likely hop residue) will settle in the bottom. When you rack it for bottling, this gunk will be left behind.

As an aside, this is why a lot of people do still do secondaries - gives you two chances to leave gunk behind and get really clear beer. Of course,a long enough primary does the same thing.
