Completely new to homemade winemaking and have started on a batch of rose hip wine. All going well since Aug 22, then racked off into demijohns Aug 31, raked off again Sep 22 and have had some slow fermentation going since then, which became really slow these last 2 days, with not too much sediment.

Woke up this morning to find that one of our 2 demijohns has floating things in it which look a little like sponge. Some now at the top, some still milling around underneath these. Definitely weren't there yesterday. 2nd demijohn still quite clear as yet.

Any ideas what these are, what we should do about it if anything and how can we avoid it next time round?

Used Young's Super Wine Yeast Compound.
Temp has been between 18-21 C
OG 1086 aug 22
SG 986 sep 22 at which time we topped up with about 2 pints of sugar solution to bring the liquid up to the top of the jar.

Pics attached.

Many thanks

Pretty sure

Or yeast rafts. Normal fermentation byproduct. Nothing to worry about. They'll eventually settle to the bottom or will be left behind on subsequent rackings.

Or aliens.
