Well...

  • I've given a flask as a groomsman's present

  • I have not given a flask as a groomsman's present

  • I've never been married, so why am I answering?

  • I've RECEIVED a flask, and never used it

  • I've RECEIVED a flask, and used it once or twice

  • I've RECEIVED a flask, and use it all the time (I'm a lush)

  • I've been in wedding parties, never got a flask

  • Nobody's ever asked me to be in their wedding... :(

yeh... flasks are cheesy IMHO.

We should put up a poll. I bet a good percentage of guys here gave flasks as gifts and I'b bet that almost EVERYONE has one that they got as a groomsman gift.

I gave engraved pewter mugs, which were decent, but I like yours better. The worst one I got was a gym bag.

Trying to remember what I gave... brother-in-law got a nice engraved Zippo. Best man got a cigarette case, but since he ditched me (called me two days before the wedding to say he couldn't make it), I still have it and use it to hold business cards. My brother got an engraved stein. No flasks - I'm pretty sure the only time I've seen someone drink out of one was Shooter in "Hoosiers"...

Guess i'll repost my comment here, then:

I got my groomsmen personalised Capcatchers from here. Great little company and they work perfectly. We even got one with just our wedding date for just the wife and I and it gets used just about daily.

No excuse for forgetting our anniversary now! :mug:

I had no idea what a capcatcher was - that's pretty cool

I gave engraved shakers at my wedding. For gifts, I've gotten a fancy wine cork, and more recently from a very movie-centric friend of mine, I got a big ceramic pop-corn tub, a gift card for Blockbuster, Borat, and a box of popcorn.

I gave everyone in my party engraved, gold plated putters. I've gotten an engraved keychain, a large engraved, glass beer mug and a travel bag.

I have got one from a friends wedding, It came filled with scotch. And we all drank it before the wedding. It made for an interesting night to say the least.

I didn't give any when i got married, but i've been a recipient twice. I think they're great and they accompany me on camping trips and the Celtic Festival.

Never understood the thing with hip flasks, they are just too damn small, they are passed around on occasions like weddings etc when a stainless steel bucket would be more appropiate :D.

I hate the whole ritual of slurping down about a tablespoon of a spirit and then grimacing like you are experiencing some sort of horrific rectal examination before passing it own to the next person to repeat the same pantomine.

That said i think they make a very thoughtful present and would be pleased to get one!!!

Being a Scotsman I get to wear the kilt and you are required by LAW to carry a hip flask in the sporran. This weight aids in keeping the front on the kilt down when fronted with all of the lovely ladies if you get my drift ;)

I keep mine in my sock if my sporran is full of junk. Not the knife sock though. I gave 4oz hip flasks filled with Laphroaig to my groomsmen.

...you need a bigger sporran then! Mine just has tissues (always the gent!), money (notes, dump the wallet), keys and the flask.

I gave out pocketknives. One of the groomsmen proceeded to cut himself at the rehearsal dinner. He wanted to see if it was sharp.......

I gave out engraved Leatherman's and every one of my groomsmen has used them at one time or another. I intended for them to be kept in the glovebox where they would eventually come in handy--I'm very practical. ;)

I have one engraved flask that I use on occasion.

I got a flask from my sister at her wedding, actually used it a couple times this year. I forgot I still had it till the other day. Hmmm...............Still trying to remember what I gave my groomsmen. It was only last year!!!!!!

I gave my three groomsman revolvers. Yes, real handguns. The best I've received was an engraved cigar.....kit I guess you'd call it. Beautiful wooden box that opens to reveal ashtray w/ ledge for holding cigar, cutter, puncher, etc. Never received a flask.

Honestly, not knowing any gun laws, and not sure if this is even the thread for it, but is it legal to gift a gun?

I'm about to be a bestman, I'll let you know what I get. I wouldn't mind a flask, but I already have one and I never have used it.

I am also too much of a ***** to drink hard alcohol straight.

:)

I got one from my brother from his Wedding it still has yet to be used. It's real nice looking so I'm waiting for a good reason to bring it along and not get taken' away (college football game). Maybe in Vegas...
