A couple friends and myself just built a hop trellis & planted 4 varieties in Astoria, Oregon this last weekend. We'll see what grows up there!

Any tips would be much appreciated.

try to find what is grown commercially near you. You may want to grow varieties that have good mildew resistance too.
Thanks, I stopped and talked to Dave, the owner of FreshHops Farms in Philomath (freshhops.com) and got 4 varieties he recommended based on the wet & not real warm climate of the NW Oregon coast.

We ended up with Newport, Galena, Chinook & Cascade.

How are your hops doing? Are the hops in Astoria or Eugene? I live in Florence and I planted this year, Cascade, Centennial and Nugget. The Cascade Rhizome was a jumbo and is over 20' tall, not bad for the first year. The Centennial and Nugget are 10'.

Wow, that is an impressive plant for the first year! Ours are in Astoria, but I live in Eugene and am currently travelling in Germany, so a buddy of mine is taking care of the plants at the moment... so I'm actually not sure how they're doing. I should check in on my babies.
