I have ordered my first beginner kit from Midwest. Should be coming any time. Getting excited for it.

Welcome.

Advice: Read the directions, read them again, start your brew, sanitize everything that will touch the cool wort/beer. read the directions again. Control your temperatures. Ferment at the low end of your yeast's range. Control your fermentation temperature. Patience. Most directions have you moving to secondary or bottling sooner than is optimum.
Bottle then wait. They will be best at 3 weeks +. I usually put 1 in the fridge after a week and a half to test it. Most of the time it is at least 2 weeks before they are carbonated and better at 3 weeks and longer.

Ok cool. So I pitched the yeast before I aerated. Will I run in to problems?

Depending on how you topped up to your full 5gal batch level, that may have been enough. I really try to pour from higher up to mix things up. Then I really get in and stir things around. Your avg ale would appear to not need anymore than that in my experiences. Some pitch ontop of the wort, let it sit for 10 min to hydrate a bit, then stir it in. This is just what I have done, thats all.

Thanks guys. Fermentation was about two days long. Just waiting for Monday to rack on to secondary fermenter so that I can start a new batch. Thanks for ur help so far. Will get back with u shortly.

We must have done our first batches at almost the exact same time, cause i'm in the same boat :mug: Just waiting another couple days and then moving to secondary and getting something else going.

I did my first ever batch on Tuesday aswell but I am a patient person. I am going 3 weeks primary 2 weeks dry hopped secondary and deciding between kegging or bottling first. Bottling looks like a pain lol.

Good luck.

I bottled today and it wasn't bad. I filled and my friend capped. To took about 15 mins.

I know that it has been a long time since I started but my Irish stout was great and only getting better! I have since made prob 15 or so more. Had some carbing issues but got past that. I am you g to turn a fridge into a keg-orator. And keg my first keg in about a week. Pumpkin ale! Hope
U guys are doing well!
