This will be my first time bottling and I'm not sure how much priming sugar to use. I have an extract kit from NB that came with a 5 oz bag of sugar. It says to mix it with 1 pint of water. Am I actually supposed to use the whole 5 oz bag?
Before I kegged, I had really good luck with the carb drops....The big ones that look like cough drops. It was a per bottle dose, so you did not have to worry about how much to measure out based upon how much beer is actually being bottled. Of all the 5 gallon batches I brewed, none were ever 5 gallons.
+1 on the above. You almost always need to rack and measure how much beer you have before figuring out the amount of sugar that needs to go into it for carbonating.
When I first got started using NB's extract kits I typically ended up with 4.5-4.75 gallons of beer in the bottling bucket. Adding 5oz of corn sugar to that made some really bubbly brews! Unless you're for-sure packaging 5+ gallons, I'd recommend less. I hate over carbed brews.
As others have said, use a priming sugar calculator online.
