Hi guys! Just put my first home brew in this past Saturday. It is a TB Ocktoberfest. The kit and all was an early b-day gift from the wife. Everything went well and it fermented nice for a few days. Bubbles are down to 1 every minute and a half as of this morning and I think I may take a hydrometer reading tomorrow to see what’s going on….I have resisted to peek inside or touch it so far.

I have another extract kit on the way (American Wheat from NB) and itching to get it started this weekend. I have a 5 gallon better bottle, 5 gallon glass carboy, and my bottling bucket available. What would be the best route for me to go? Should I transfer what I have going now over to the secondary this weekend or put the new kit in the better bottle or carboy with a blow off? Or should I just wait on the second all together?

Thanks for all of your help!

Hey - I'm a noob too, so I don't know which of the first few options is better, but I *know* that the last option is wrong! :mug:

I would buy a bucket to ferment in or transfer to secondary. A 5 gallon batch in a 5 gallon vessel is a bad idea. If you are having this problem now, you are going to need more vessels later and a bucket is cheap.

+1 to getting a bucket. You definitely don't want to put a wheat beer into an undersized fermenter, and you'll see what I'm talking about when you do brew it.

+1 to the wheat warning. Never had a blowoff until I made a wheat. I had a 4 gallon batch in a 6 gallon carboy and still had a massive blowoff.

I've have aquired a few more buckets and working on getting the pipeline going. Just wanted to post a pic of my first brew. It turned out great!
