Getting ready to use my electric BIAB pot for first time this Saturday, done all my tests (Dry, boil off, etc) My only question is when it gets time to put my immersion chiller in the pot (usually 10 min before flame out to disinfect ) Can you put the chiller on top of the heating element while on? or you wait until flame out, turn off the element and then use the chiller? I can put the metal basket back in and put the chiller on top of that I guess.

Thanks in advance guys

I put it directly on and it was okay. I just didn't touch it until water began to run through it because it would probably get hot. I eventually moved to a CFC.

I place mine straight on the element and no problems.

Just make sure the element is screwed in such that adding additional weight won't loosen the connection and cause a leak.

Short of that, the heat between the element and the IC isn't an issue.
