so im entering my first BJCP sponserd event this fall. im entering 4 beer but one of them im not sure where what category to enter it into and could use some help.

it is an orange wheat with sweet orange peel. i wouldn't call this a blue moon clone in any way but all the same im not sure where it should go.

any thoughts

not to mention there several sub categories. im looking as to where exactly. based off what BASE Style. i know what it tastes like but its a made up recipe so i have no clue as to if its a WIT or an American wheat or a specialty.. so anyone with EXPERIENCE want to chime in

To decide wit or wheat, consider your yeast. For other considerations, you should read the bjcp style guidelines for the style you are considering. It is those guidelines that will be used for judging your beer, so reading and knowing them and how they speak to the would-be characteristics of your brew are an excellent starting point for entering your first contest. Good luck to you!

Based off your super descriptive, and very informative description I cannot figure out why no one else is chiming in.

You seem like you have some knowledge about guidelines, however you are not sure in yourself as to what it should be entered in.

When I find myself unable to decide what category to enter, I will enter it into 2 or more that it MAY fit in.

Nobody here but you has tasted your beer, so don't look to the internet to be your magic box.

Enter it where you think it belongs and hope for the best.

Good luck.

Yeast used? SRM? IBU? Hops used? Base malt? Specialty malts and %?

OP - Does it have any corriander or phenols from the yeast that are perceivable? It may fit into the Witbier subcategory.

If, however, it is "clean" I'd enter into 20A - Fruit Beer so long as the orange and orange peel are prevalent and not just background noise. Subdued orange aroma and flavor is not going to do you any favors in this particular category - you want to stand out a good bit.

This sounds like a particular case where you should enter this beer into multiple categories and not just try to fit into one.

If it has a pronounced orange presence and you used an american yeast strain enter it as a specialty (cat 23) with base-style American Wheat.

If you used a Belgian yeast strain and it is orange forward with low phenol/spice character and/or if the color is too dark then enter it as either 23 or 16E-belgian specialty. Either way you're going to have to describe why it doesn't fit into a base style when entering.
