Made my first 5 gallon batch last night, Brewers best dunklewiezen. Was going good till I realized my pot that worked for Mr. Beer wasn't big enough for boil, so out came the turkey frier pot. Was going well till I dropped my hydrometer on the floor, so I didn't get my og reading. Oh well, its happily bubbling away as we speak, can't wait till xmas, maybe I'll get to try one then?

Congrats on the first "brewed batch" & welcome! Make sure you have Austin, Rebel, MoreBeer, etc saved at the top of your favorites list and let Mrs Claus know gift certificates are always in good taste.

Hydrometers make great stocking stuffers. Well, as long as they're left in the tube...otherwise they can be unpleasantly surprising.

Thanks guys, does anyone know of any lhbs in columbus ohio? I've been to Gentiles, and know of the place on high street, but don't know of anyplace else.

Also, should I worry about taking a sg reading tonight? I can get a hydrometer today.

It sounds like you are a little late to take an original gravity reading and if it is fermenting you could just let the yeast do its thing and wait a couple weeks for it to finish and just forget to use the hydrometer on this one. I don't always use the hydrometer.

Those are the only 2 I've been to. I'll shop Gentiles when I'm in town but I thought the other guys were kind of pricey. (But, it's a couple hours highway for me to hit either one.)

Couple others I've not been to: Neil House Brewery & Homebrew Supply - 6575 Livingston Avenue, Reynoldsburg <or> Blacklick Wine & Spirits - 7199 East Broad Street, Blacklick. Blacklick is a "state store" but also have HB supplies. :)
