Happy new year.
Just turned 2017 about an hour ago here.

I have a brew planned for mid morning.
A great way to start the year.

The weather forcast is good so I can setup my electric system outside. 5.5L of boiloff does not belong in the house.

It will be my second all grain and second on my freshly assembled HERMS system.

The first batch is still in the fermentor bubbling away and I cant wait to get another one on the way after bottling an extract beer freed up a fermenter. This is addictive.

Still a few bugs to work out but might as well make use of the time I have off work to do that. Hopefully i dont overshoot the mash temperature this time.

Only problem with all this brewing is i can't drink it as fast as I'm brewing it but might as well get it done and in bottles before I get busy later in the year.

Ricky

Happy New Years, still have 15.5 hours to go here, Cheers!!. I will start the New Year off brewing a California Common, something I have not done in a while. I have an Irish Red Ale finishing the ferment for the end of the year.

I am in my igloo in Canada with 14 more hours before 2017! I will brew when the snow melts. Lots of white fluffy snow here right now. Have fun brewing! We have fond memories of your country when we spent a month there with a RV and our fly poles!

Pigroaster, Great you have good memories from your trip down this way.

The city I'm living in doesn't get snow on the ground.
Avoiding snow for brewing sounds like a good choice.

I got my brew done. Its in the fermentor now. I delayed mash in to afternoon due to weathet forcast change and a few spots of rain but nothing major.

Here is a few photos of todays brew. Cloudy with a bit of sun.

I really need to make a brew stand to hold the pumps eyc then I can shorten some of my hoses.

Unlike my first all grain batch where i forgot i put a whirlfloc tablet in today. Seems to make a difference. The first batch is still clouldy but there is a layer at the bottom of the fermenter already on this batch.

I also adjusted my mill for this brew. A bit wider because the last batch nearly stuck. I also adjusted the pickup to be a mm higher to prevent issues under the weight of grain. With the better flow I could run the pump wide open and not get air sucked in like the last brew.

I got closer to mash temp this time after dough in. Beer smith calculated s temperature that was too high for both sll grain batches for some reason.

At least in starting to learn about my system. I did get within 1 of the sg oredicted by beersmith.

Green grass! White snow here! Thanks for the photos. I have four ponds and all are iced over except for where the aerators pump air for my Koi fish. I anm heading south to Az soon to warm up. Brew on!!

Along with the green grass there is actually quite a bit that has browned off.
Warming up sounds like a good plan. snow and ice looks nice but I imagine having it for a long period you would soon get sick of it.

You are, AFAIK, officially the first brew of the new year. Congrats. I'm upgrading your acct for the nice post.

Just getting ready to pitch yeast on my Black IPA - 10gal batch. It was a long day but got a 20gal Ss Brew Tech Mash Tun for Christmas and was dying to try it out.

Yay 2017 brews! We need our how many brews in 2017 thread.

Brewing an extract Belgian Tripel, same one we brewed in Oct 2015 in honor of HWMO's 65th bday. We only have two bottles left, they are quite nice and smooth these days. So doing another one, in on the stove. Different yeast tho, this is Safbrew Abbaye, previous was T-58. It will be our first use of the new fermentation chamber - free freezer from sister, with Inkbird controller. Got it set for 60, will tape the sensor on the side under bubblewrap.

Happy New Year all of you!!

Just wrapped up a 5gal AG quad on the East Coast US (got a late start). Figure I'll need the high ABV to see me through 2017 (or just to celebrate it being better than 2016).

Ricky - Love the HERMS setup but, you're right, it needs a nice stand or brew house. Sláinte!
