So a month ago I attempted my first BIAB beer after about 1/2 dozen extract batches. Here's my blog post about the brew session.
Short version: I let the water get too hot during the mash, my SG was way, way too low and I panicked and added sugar to the cooling wort in an unsanitary manner.
Suffice to say, I did not have great hopes for this beer.
Cracked one open last night and whoa! It's delicious! The recipe was NB's Chinook IPA but at 4.2% the resulting brew came out more like a session IPA. Still it's crisp, clear and very drinkable. I was afraid there'd be a cidery taste from the sugar but it appears that fear was unwarranted. Just goes to show how forgiving this hobby is. I was already planning a second BIAB session to redeem myself and now I'm excited to get started!
