Hey everyone. New to the brewing business. I started my first brew saturday. Its fermenting now! Pretty exciting.
Think I need to get a Thermometer and fermometer or hydrometer. whatever they are called lol.

Im not sure if I got my wort cold of enough before I poured it in my carboy. Hopefully! It felt pretty cool and was in cold water with lots of ice for a little while....15-20mins probably?

I just did some basic beer I guess.
no idea if its gonna be good lol. Hope so!

-Northern Brewer Amber Malt Syrup. About 5.5lbs I used.
-Amarillo Pellet Hops. 1oz at first then added a little more at the end.
-WYeast American Ale Liquid Yeast

So pretty basic but i think it should be ok!
Gonna start writing down what I do and take notes and keep reading to make the process easier and learn to make better beer!!

Your first beer, that's great...

If you want to make a hobby out of this, do yourself a favor and get "How to Brew" by John Palmer, and also "Brewing Classic Styles", by Jamil Zainesheff and John Palmer.

I've learned more from these two books than anywhere else.

Welcome to the forum

Think I might bottle this weekend if i have time! Getting super excited haha.
We will see though...with valentines and all the girlfriend might not like me playing with the beer so i might have to wait till after work next week haha.

Then I think I will go buy a propane burner and start on another batch! I gotta get a burner though....my stove would barely get my water boiling.

And recommendations on a beer to make? My first one I just picked a malt yeast and hops. Didnt really look at the kits or read up much on the ingredients which I think I will learn more about this time.

I will get some pictures up before I bottle and then some during the bottling process.

Oh I was at the girlfriends parents the other weekend and telling them about my brew. And her mom goes down into the basement and comes up with a glass carboy! I was like oh snap! lol. Its only a 5 gallon bottle but it should work fine. She has another one too at her other daughters house that is just sitting around so shes gonna get me that one too. So now I will have a 6.5 gallon better bottle and two 5 gallon glass carboys.

Anyone know of Glenwood brewing or something like that? I dont remember exactly what it said on the carboy as im at work and cant look at it. But I am pretty sure it said Glenwood Brewing Minneapolis.

Woah, noobie -
Congrats on the first beer! but you brewed Saturday and want to bottle this weekend?

Two schools of thought here - (well, actually more than two - but the basics are:)

1) bottle up! You are proud of your first beer and the fact that you created BEER! It won't be very good, this early, but who cares? you made BEER!

2) Wait. Wait. Wait... Patience is a virtue in this hobby. With dozens (hundreds?) of batches under my belt (thousands under some belts, along with large belts...) we usually wait anywhere from 3 to 6 or even more WEEKS after brewing before thinking about bottling. Yes, the yeast is done fermenting, but it can still go back and clean up after itself, and in the process, make your beer better! Much better!

and when you do bottle, keep the bottles at 70F for 3 weeks for proper carbonation. (told you - patience!)

Welcome to HBT and to your new hobby!
Wishing you all the success you can have.

This saturday will be 3 weeks that its been fermenting. But ya lol...thought about leaving it in longer but being my first brew im getting super anxious haha. I want to try it!

Haha sounds good to me :)

Heres some pictures of it right now.

heres a picture of it close up...cant see it very well but u can see a little suddy looking stuff on the top of the beer but i dont think its anything.

and then we got this one which is a picture of my 5 gallon carboy that i just got which i was thinking of doing a secondary so i can make room to start a new batch. Id have to make a blowoff or get a airlock that would fit this bottle.
