Am going to bottle my first homebrew tonight with the help of SWMBO.

This is NB's Irish Red Ale. The kit says the OG is 1.040, so I didn't take a reading. Anyway my FG three days running is 1.012. Is this a reasonable figure considering the starting point?

I've read you are good when below 1.020, but that seems to be a huge range to me.

Fermentation seemed to go fine and was vigorous with about 3 inches of krausen foam. But, like I said, this is my first.

Yeah, as long as you had consistent SG readings over 3 days you are good to go. Depending on temperatures and pitch rate FG can vary quite a bit. That is why you take that reading over 3 days to show that it truly is done fermenting. 1.012 is decent for a extract batch.

Thanks guys. I'ts all in bottles now. Just gotta get through the next three weeks...

I was sure that 1.012 was OK. I just didn't know if there was a target FG that I'm supposed to be shooting for given a certain OG and yeast strain.

Pez.
