I managed to work things out so I can sneak home today and grade papers in between steps of my first AG batch. I'm pretty stoked about it--I'll update on how things go.

Don't worry, it will be brown & sticky.

Do watch the kettle closely until the protein break is over. It's quite different from extract.

Did you perform a dry run first? I ran my new 10 gallon setup thru my head countless times before the did the acutal brewing itself.

Not physically, but a million times in my head. I've compiled an extremely detailed checklist (what I will do while heating the strikewater, etc.). I'm kindof anal that way when I do something for the first time.

On a side note. Keep your malt, flour, milling equipment in a seperate room then your brewlab. You definitely don't want that particulate floatinf around anywhere near your yeast!
