Pinholes? Where? Was the water leaking? That all sounds like it sucks. Hopefully things are resolved quickly.

Sorry to hear for your trouble. That sounds incredibly frustrating.

I bought a 15 gal kettle from Spike Brewing and the equipment was fine. I made a small mistake with my order and e-mailed them about it on a Saturday afternoon, and they got back to me on Sunday evening. I found them to be quite responsive.

I hope your experience bears that out as well. Good luck!

Pin holes?!?! Weird. I would expect a leak at a weld-less fitting but pin holes?!?! Weird.

Ben from spike emailed me last nite, sunday, and apologized and said he is shipping me a new kettle monday morning with a return label for the other one :rockin:

Looks like a bad weld. I'm 99% sure that's where Concord welds the bottom of the pots to the sides (~1" from the bottom). I welded a coupling in my 25 gallon Concord and notice that it was really thin in that area, most likely due to grinding of the weld. It was about half the thickness of other areas where I cut and welded fittings into the pot. I could see that they ground all the way around the pot 1" from the bottom to smooth the weld. If you look closely, you will also see one vertical seam from top to bottom where they welded the ends of the piece of sheet metal together that makes up the wall of the pot. That weld is also ground. After working on my pot and seeing the quality, I thought some of these things must get shipped with pinholes in them. It sucks, but I am not surprised.

So how are they going to compensate you for your wasted time?
Looks like something even a beginning QC tech should have stopped!

Yes, I just quoted myself. I meant to say that I am not surprised that the pots leave the manufacturer with pin holes in them. I am surprised that they leave Spike with pinholes in them.

As long as he takes care of the replacement I am good with hey **** happens, the real vendors fix their mistakes and keep customers happy.
