I just finished my first AG attempt and everything (most everything) went OK except the hot water wasn't high enough and I had to lift 5 gallons of 170° water over my head. Anyway, when I got to the boil, there were lots of light colored particles in the wort. As the boil progressed, they seemed to coagulate some. I've never seen this in extract boils. Is this some kind of protein thing or something? Just don't tell me the beer is junk.

Bits of grain, husks, clumps of protein from the hot break. All the stuff the extract makers filter out. The ale will also be a bit murkier during the ferment and may take longer to settle in the secondary.

All perfectly normal.

All that stuff makes for easier boil-overs too. That caught me off guard a few times. Glad to see everything came out ok. You'll taste the difference when you're done. :)
