I'm thinking about starting to flter my beer. Currently all I do is run my beer through a sequence of strainers. I was wondering whats the next step (not too crazy, but a bit more sophisticated)?
 
Do you mean "filter" like the big boys do? (Read: like budweiser does) I don't think you want to do that. That will get all the yeast out, and if you do that, you'll have to force carbonate. The way the homebrewers do it, we leave yeast in the bottle, so that when we add sugars before bottling the yeast eat, and when they eat they fart (just like the rest of us), but they fart Co2, which is what carbonates your beer.

You can naturally carbonate in a keg and then filter under pressure. You will need this:

I'm not filtering myself. But I rack carbonated beer from one keg to another under pressure. I could start filtering if I just put one of these filters in-line.

I don't naturally carbonate, but I use the filtration system (second link). It works quite well. Don't waste your money on the .5 micron filter - the 1 micron clears the beer up perfectly. I heard somewhere that the .5 micron will eliminate all chill haze as well, but I've never had any chill haze with the 1 micron.

Now all I need is the Blichman beer gun and I'll have all the equipment I need for a while.

I may have to try this... I have a lot of friends that like to drink "good" beer, but they still aren't use to the sediment that can be in homebrew... plus I kind of like to have a clear beer too... hehehee...
 
I use a 1 micron canister type filter. I'll put a gallon of no-rinse sanitizer in the empty keg, pressurize and blow it through the filter. Inverting the filter near the end helps clear all of the sanitizer. Then I just hookup to the ale keg and filter. I filter about one keg in ten, even though I use kegs a secondaries. Sometimes there's just too much secondary trub or the yeast won't focculate.
