I have my first batch of Everyday IPA in the carboy now. It has been in there for about a week and according to a few of you I will bottle it next week. But I have a few questions.

There is sediment on the bottom and Kraugen(?) on the top. I know this is normal, again according you y'all. Should I strain it before bottling?

How long should I wait for the beer to ferment after bottling? or is it good to drink?

Thanks Y'all

Should I strain it before bottling?

No. If you run fermented beer through a strainer, you'll oxidize the heck out of it and it'll go stale quickly. If you want to get the beer more clear, if you can put the fermenter someplace cold for 5-7 days (called "cold crashing") that will help. If not, let it sit in the fermenter a full three weeks, especially if your not confirming FG with hydrometer sampling.

After you bottle, it needs to sit 3 weeks at 70-75*F to carbonate and condition. After that, a few days in the fridge and it's ready.

Wait for the krausen to drop and the beer to clear before bottling. If you have active krausen you probably have active fermentation and may create bottle bombs if you bottle now.

I have a filtering set up so I filter, I also force carbonate so stripping the yeast is not an issue, but as said, do not filter through a strainer

instead, about 3 days before bottling add some finings

but remember the finings are going to take a lot of the residual yeast with them

so, either let the trub settle or use finings

there are benefits to both

Thanks for all the help! I really enjoyed my first batch, is extract beer any easier to make?
