When are you supposed to add this stuff to prevent boil overs?
Also can be used to prevent blowoff in the fermenter.
Wikipedia said:...Activated dimethicone, a mixture of polydimethylsiloxanes and silicon dioxide (sometimes called simethicone), is used in Over-the-counter drug as an anti-foaming agent...
You can add it in the boil at the the start or any time after.

Simethicone (aka Gas-x or Oval or their no name equivalents) works just as well.
I just boiled with one gelcap of Gas-x and didn't have to worry about boiling over at all. I couldn't find unflavored Gas-x so it had mint flavoring in it, which I could definitely smell at the start of the boil, but I can't detect the smell now so hopefully it didn't impart a minty flavor.
So, let me get this right. I have the gas-x caplets. Can i throw these in the wort and just let them dissolve or do i need to pierce one and squeeze its contents into the wort? Just one caplet or 2 or more?
Seeing how i have no LBHS and have to order everything online this could be a potential cash saver.
