Hello all, new to the forum. I will be brewing an all extract kit this weekend. I plan on using my new minibrew conical for the first time. The kit instructions call for fermetation temos of 60-65 but my basement is only 72. Is this to high to ferment my brew properly? any ideas on how to cool the conical a few degrees????

72°F may be a little high. Cooling a conical is a bit of a challenge if you don't have a fridge with a temp controller. My best advice to get by on the cheap would be to drape a couple of t-shirts over the thing and keep them damp. That should drop the temps 3° - 4°, especially if a fan is blowing on it.

My basement is about 72 right now and I can get my carboy to 68ish with a wet towel and fan.

What the heck is a conical.

This is a very good shape for a fermenter, also professional fermenter are conical shaped in the bottom. It make possible a better separation of the yeast cake from the green beer.

Sorry for the delayed response to your post...
I have a Minibrew 6.5gal conical and love it. For cooling I have converted an old Standup freezer (bought on craigslist). The MiniBrew fits inside no problem. I don't think cooling with a towel would work too well for the MiniBrew. The plastic is thick and does not transfer heat or cold very well. It can take several hours for my freezer to drop the fermentation temp 10 DegF. and a 1/2 a day to drop it down to lagering temps...
If you have the space and money, I say keep your eyes open for a standup freezer you can convert into a fermentation cabinet. It is a great system.
