There is a lot of great music on this thread. :mug:

This is exactly why I started this thread. I LOVE female vocals and I have always been on the hunt for new music. I have been kind of lost in 80-90 hour work weeks for the last 4 years I have kind of lost touch.
Great music!
Cheers
Jay

Every once in a while, my inner Swede surfaces & then I really like listening to Kraja:

Or their cover of an old Nina Simone tune:

Alison Krauss - Because her voice is so pure and sweet...she can sing absolutely anything....and she has class!

Nora Jones - ditto to above

Dolly Parton - Because I like her music and the fact that she is "dumb-like-a-fox". "It costs a lot of money to look this trashy", one of my favorite quotes and window into her soul.

Bette Midler - The quintessential female entertainer.

Patsy Cline - a pure voice and a haunting ghost-image and memory of the late 1950's

Sara Bareilles singing "Gravity" a cappella.. best rendition of this song by far (and the original), and one of the best songs i think of when i hear great female artist

I'll add Brandi Carlile to the list. I saw her at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee. She walked to the edge of the stage and belted out this song with no amplification at all and still rocked the place. A couple weeks later she was on A Prairie Home Companion. After she blew the doors off the theater by playing Folsom Prison Blues, Garrison Keillor, with typical Midwestern understatement, said "You got some voice on ya, kid."

And Neko Case needs to be here too. I've seen her solo and with the New P0rn0graphers.

Bonnie Raitt- nothing sexier then a girl who can play slide guitar..
Carol King. Great voice
Ann & Nancy Wilson.. I put them as 1 because they complement each other do well.
Janis Joplin .. Because she's Janis
Sheryl Crow... Yummmm

And as alternates
Martha Davis of The Motels... Haunting vocals
Melissa Etheridge .. No one puts more in to their music..
Alice Cooper..... J/K
Anita Baker.... Great smooth sound

Oh, and that voice of hers. I saw her in concert not to long ago and, man - when she closed the show with an old Elvis song, holy smokes.

EDIT:

Found a video from the same tour

We seem to have forgotten the "and why" requirement of this thread...

Because she's got a good voice and a great rack.

Stevie Nicks is a legend in the music industry. Need I say more about her?

I must admit; not my favorite. Obviously a legend but her voice grates on my ears. I do, strangely enough, like Fleetwood Mac.

This girl here is amazing! I would say that I am biased because she is a local talent for me, but she really is monumentally talented. Check out Gina Sobel and the Mighty Fine! Really great musicians that are working their way up and have shown no signs of stopping. I have also met her several times and she is really modest and 'down to earth'. Also a really lovely girl.
