I often toss this around.

I have a top 5. Do you? What are they and why..

Natalie Merchant is the top of the list for me. Her work with 10,000 was amazing and her solo career has been something of a joy ride for anyone who knows her music.

Stevie Nicks is a legend in the music industry. Need I say more about her?

Adele. Love her sound!

Janis Joplin. Member of the 27 club. My aunt Duffy Bishop played Janis in the off broadway play Janis the life of the the artist. Her story just blows me a way, her music will stand the test of time!

Tracy Chapman always takes me back to a somewhat darker time for me. But a time of great reflection. I found Tracy in a time of my life that I was struggling to understand me as a person.

Whats your list, and why?

Cheers
Jay

Tarja Turunen

Because she is one of the, if not the, most talented female vocalists on the planet.

No time for a list now, I'll post more later.

I like Tarja. Her latest collaboration with Within Temptation is really catchy.

Charlotte Wessels - beautiful voice and awesome girl next door looks.

Sharron Den Adel - Her angelic voice against the heavy guitar work just plays so well.

Pink. Need I say more. This is coming from someone that despises pop music. Her gravel toned voice and nicely toned body makes a homerun combination.

I agree. I'm not into *all* her music, but I appreciate how she got where she is, and her songwriting and stage artistry puts her a step above most others in her field.

I liked Michelle Chamuel when she was on The Voice. I'd seen her with Ella Riot in Traverse City and loved that sound. She's got a great and unusual style and voice. The album she recorded right after The Voice didn't quite do it for me though. Just a tad bit too much SFX on it for me. She does well with a little bit of that stuff, but the amount she put in on that album took it from creative and interesting to disjointed and somewhat jarring. I just found it hard get in the groove on most of the songs due to the high amount of stutters and whatnot.

There's a ton of classic rock chicks I like, such as Ann Wilson, Stevie Knicks, Pat Benatar, etc.

Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, and Koko Taylor all work for me. All pretty different styles too.

Norah Jones, her voice is incredibly sexy & she's very nice to look at too.

Devil Doll, great voice, love the music style & she's smokin' hot.

The Mediaeval Baebes, they're all female, sound great & look good too. I really like their genre too.

Sheila Chandra, some of her songs are almost hypnotic for me.

Billie Holiday, she had such a rich, full voice, full of feeling.

There are many more, but I think those would be my top 5.
Regards, GF.

Pink is definitely on the list.

Dido. Great, driving voice.

Tori Amos.

Alanis Morrisette

Shakira. Yes, I'm sure it's partly that I have the hots for her something fierce. But I do really love her voice.

Alissa White-Gluz of The Agonist. She's hot & has a hell of a voice for metal:

I heard a new Arch Enemy promo recently with her on vocals and while she is good, she's definitely no Angela Gossow.

Angela's also on my list because of her unique vocal abilities and her unmatched intensity and dedication to metal music.

Not many could replace Angela. I think Alissa is only one of a select few who could pull it off. I'm looking forward to Arch Enemy's next album with Alissa at the helm. It will be interesting to see what Angela does next.

Laurie Anderson, Esperanza Spalding, Ann Savoy, Virginia Rodrigues, Kelly Buchanan.

Best story teller/performance artist, best bass/voice combo, beautiful classics, best overall voice, and pure in your face songwriting.

Nitte Valo because she has one of the most powerful voices in metal and charisma in spades.

I'm a huge fan of Paula Cole I've seen her live a couple times and met her once, she's one of the most talented musicians I've ever seen. I also like the Mediaeval baebes too

Pat Benatar
Ann Wilson
Stevie Nicks
Kate Bush
Belinda Carlisle

Why, because in the 80's I spent a lot of time punching holes in the oceans going 4 knots to nowhere and music was a way to excape. These ladies (and others) and their voices helped to maintain some resemblance of sanity.

Bonnie Rait
Aretha Franklin
Billie Holiday
Patsy Cline
I'm kinda going through a Sugar Pie Desanto kick right now, so I'll make her #5 for my list. But Beyonce is close for that spot too.

Dolly Parton: Because Coat of many colors always gets me, damn near brings a tear to my eyes.
Janice Joplin: Because she put so much into everything she ever did.
Loretta Lynn: Because she reminds me so much of my mom, in her mannerisms, and general Kentucky persona.

Aside from them, the chick from the B52s I always liked, and I love me some older/70s Linda Ronstadt.

Storm Large

Siouxsie Sioux

Joan Jett

I'm just going with my current favorite, and I'm going to have to say Taylor Momsen. I think her vocals on Heaven Knows are amazing.

And prior to that I would say Maria Brink for Blood.
