This is my first time with the Fastferment conical, and I am looking for comments from those of you with more experience. After racking my California Common Anchor Steam clone into the conical 3 weeks ago I left the valve closed, and let it rest in the basement closet. Fermentation went well, and today I took a test sample, and it had finished out well at 1.006, for an ABV of 7.2 %. When I opened the valve to drain the trub, it didn't budge. I tried gently shaking the conical, and rapping on its edge to no avail. So I inserted my previously sanitized beer thief into the offending gunk, it loosened up and I decanted two bottles of the stuff, and am going to let this thing settle for ten days, before kegging it. Are there any comments on what I should do different? Should I open the valve, and drain the trub the first couple of days after it's filled ? Will that affect the yeast, or is it all in suspension at that point?
Thanks for all help..Cheers!
