Fantome Desert Ghost which is pretty similar to how I remember it at The Festival in Louisville last year.

Bit of a skunked aroma as soon as I pulled the cork, and a very light pop which is always a surprise with the ghost. Light funk and moderate bitterness to start with a super light lactic touch at the end. Subdued and more malt forward than I expected. Not bad, but certainly not a transcendent experience. Hoping some additional time will help it out as I've still got a few bottles that could use some drying out / funking up.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but it was much better on the second pour and seemed almost as if the beer had separated a bit due to extended cold time in the fridge. Going forward (unless it looks really full of sediment) I'll likely give the bottle a turn to allow everything to homogenize and then settle again for a few minutes prior to opening.

So I just had a bottle of dark forest ghost volcano my kitchen. Literally the whole ******* bottle emptied itself onto my ceiling with docreight as my witness. Cork did not push out once I removed the cap.

Thanks to kbuzz for the c+s on this one. I was 4 for 4 up until this bottle, but as we all know, it was inevitable. The only bright side was that the glasses were close enough to the eruption that they captured some of the ceiling splash and we at least got to try a sip of the beer. It wasn't bad, but my house kitchen will remind me of the aroma every day for the foreseeable future. See ceiling in pic for reference.

I hope everyone is enjoying the non-hockey weather and cheering on the Pens as they chase back to back cups (again). Had a beer experience yesterday that is worth sharing.

uvm2003 made a recent trip to Hill and, as usual, was quick to want to share the wealth of his bounty. I headed over to his place yesterday after my daughter's soccer game and grabbed a couple beers, including this guy from GRDave:

After a bunch of goodies, it was time for the Tome. As I was corkscrewing, I commented, "I just love the surprise factor with Fantome, you really never know what you're going to get, but Dany rarely disappoints." Greg commented that the last Fantome in his house was from a Barleywine share last year. He said the beer was quite a gusher and actually got on their table causing the beer drinker who brought the beer to apologize profusely. I think it was just a few seconds before I popped the cork that Greg finished the story by explaining that he and his wife didn't care at all about the little spill.

So, any guesses on who enjoyed Dark Forest Ghost the most? Here's a hint:

Greg's ceiling!

This thing was an absolute geyser! I wore a bunch of the bottle on my shirt, and the ceiling wore the rest. Greg's ceiling is probably four feet from the counter, and it reached the ceiling almost instantly. There was so much foam on the ceiling that there were Fantome foam stalactites formed over an area the size of a small pizza that took a good minute to dissipate by dripping down onto the counter!! Unfortunately, we were too awestruck to capture any of it on camera except for the dreggy pour we managed at the end of it all. Greg and his wife were as advertised--laughed about the whole thing and cleaned up my mess while I just stood around ringing Fantome out of my shirt.

I honestly can't get the image of that geyser launching into the sky out of my head. I must've laughed out loud five times last night just replaying it in my mind. So, thanks for the awesome beer story, GRDave and danyP

So got this in a crazy box from Pneill316 because he's way too generous.

Popped the cap to a slight hiss and a puddle on the cork. Cork fell apart while opening. Still a good pop when final half of cork came out. Immediately an aroma of sour grapes / vinegar fills the air. Still great carb. First sip was straight strawberry juice that faded to an acidic aftertaste. Every damn sip tastes different. Now I'm getting more vinous qualities, strawberry, funk, vinegar. Mind blown danyP, and thanks again Phil.

If you can recall what Sante 16 was like at release time this is nearly identical (at least from my memory.) Very green yeastiness, bell pepper and more bitterness than I care for in my tomeage.

In my state of being bummed about missing the first ever BA tome for sale on etre, I took my misery out on a bottle of fresh pissenlit and grimm collab.

Grimm has left the state of being a hefeweizen that it was while fresh and has gone off the deep end, straight into a territory of weirdness. Its fruity akin to pears and apples but is clean with no funk nor distinct yeastiness. I slightly preferred this more while fresh but believe its really gonna continue to change.

This freshest batch of pissenlit is fire. Its malty, fruity and tart. Very much unlike any other pissenlit experience I encountered shy of ~20 year old bottles. I wish I woulda took note as to if this was a bottle I bought from etre or if this was a bottle someone sent me cuz honestly, wherever it came from, I want a dozen more

I'm drinking this year's pissenlit now and it's 100x better than any other batch I've had (only 3 or 4 though and nothing with serious age). Definitely something I'd seek out again. Tart and sweet, I don't know how he pulls these beers off.

I had DMD (not the new one) for the first time over the weekend.

I found this lurking way in the back of a bottle shop shelf, forgotten. I hadn't heard great things about this, so I braced for an odd experience. It was remarkably inoffensive. Mild roastiness, dry, very healthy carb, not super bitter (as I feared). No sign of any funkiness/sourness. It was odd only in how tame it was.

Lots of floral/herbal notes, has elements of that Tome funk, lightly sweet and spicy from the saison yeast. The wife likes it too. Can't wait to see how my second bottle ages.

I got this bottle today in a trade.

Prior owner's best guess for vintage was mid/possibly-earlyish 2000s. Who knows. It certainly looks and smells like it spent a lot of time in a basement.
