Is that even possible?

So I completed brewing my first batch of beer, and it turned out fantastic! It's amazing the difference a week can make in the bottling process. The 2nd week beer was much better than the first week beer. I can't wait for the 3rd week. Thanks for the help fellow brewers.

But, there was one problem. My 22 oz bombers (which I bought at the LHBS) turned out fine. The 12 oz bottles (bottles that previously had beer in them) exploded when I opened them. Luckily I only used 4 of the 12 oz bottles. I thought I cleaned them well enough (Apparently not?). Do you think I didn't clean them well enough, or could there possibly be another problem?

My cleansing process: I rinsed the empties out right after I drank them. Right before the bottling process I dipped the bottles in a bleach/water solution, then water, then starsan, then rinsed from the faucet. I used this same technique for the 22 oz bombers. Any ideas?

I'm just making sure to avoid this next time.

Thanks!

Did you drink out of the bottles or pour into a glass?

Saliva is astoundingly nasty stuff so if you had left any of that behind while the bottles were stored it could leave a film that might survive normal sanitization. Did the bottles leave behind a room filling stench that reminded you slightly of Satan's Anus?

It's also pretty possible that the smaller bottles just hadn't finished conditioning yet. The smaller the vessel the slower the carbonation. (or so I've heard.)

[edit] Just read that you're on week 2. Yeah, the smaller bottles just aren't finished carbing yet. The yeast have managed to make the CO2, but it hasn't dissolved into the beer yet, so as soon as you open the bottle all of the CO2 still stuck in the neck makes a sudden break for freedom... carrying beer with it onto your floor. [/edit]

You shouldn't have rinsed the starsan out. The beer should go right in with the starsan as it is still a little wet.
