So I had two batches of flat beer. The first time I thought I might have messed something up and it was just me. Out of my 36 EZ Caps I only had about 8-12 that had carbonation. Neddless to say I was not too happy. Well I went with an all grain for my next batch and thought I would try again. This time the same problem. So I read about using vinager and baking soda to test them out. I put about 1-2 ounces of vinager in the bottle and then added about 1/4tsp of the baking soda right into the bottle and sealed it up. Here is a video of what was going on and why I have flat beers.

Try replacing the gaskets. I got some gaskets from Austin homebrew supply and they fit nice and tight and they were a little thicker and made of natural rubber.

You can also get replacements for the whole cap, metal attachment and all...I didn't like the replacement gaskets and these work fine...if those were new I would ask for some compensation or at least let the company know that they sold you some faulty caps, but you should replace the gaskets every 6 times of use

I love the convience of using EZ top and Grolsch bottles, but I had the same issues everyone else was having with 15-20% of my beer being flat due to leakage. Then I read a suggestion to let your bottles condition upside down. I think upside down is a bit extreme because I don't want the yeast layer to be the first thing that flies out of my bottle of homebrew, but I did try laying the bottles on their sides for my last batch, so that the inside of the swing top is completely covered by beer. Problem solved! 100% carbonation of all bottles with no leaks; liquid or otherwise. If you think about it, it makes sense; like Revvy said in an earlier post, the CO2 has only 3 routes of escape: back into the beer, through the glass bottle (bottle bomb), or out the soft rubber (or synthetic) gasket. By laying the bottle on it's side, you're taking away the CO2's option of exiting by the soft gasket, leaving it with only 2 choices: back into the beer, or through the glass bottle. Give it a shot, you may end up with slightly more yeast in your glass when you pour your beer, but you will hear that pleasing, POP! sound every single time you open your swing tops! A Votre Sante!

That’s great to know. I bought 36 brand new 500ml flip top bottles and bottled a Belgian Double and Chocolate Stout. Same thing about 25% were flat.

I gave up on them...thought I might have had an issue with the distribution of priming sugar but since I went to capping, I've never had a flat beer. I got like 4 cases of flip tops just gathering dust

I only use my for cider because I know there is a 50/50 chance the will be flat but still cider is ok. Worst investment I made.

So far I've had no flat bottles with my Grolsch bottles (actual Grolsch brand ones). I flip the gasket over each batch so the 'groove' doesn't get too deep. I'll probably replace them every 4-5 batches to be safe.

Side storage seems to be a good idea, even if you still pop them in the fridge upright for a day or two before drinking, it should still prevent most leaking.

I have plenty of Grolsch and Fischer bottles that don't leak. It is only the EZ-Cap ones. I replaced all of the gaskets, and the still leak. And it's not always the same bottle (kept them seperated out to verify this one time).

I just think the tolerances on the Caps, Wire Cage, and bottles aren't all that great, causing you to have to have everything seated perfectly to get a good seal.
