I bottled a 5 gallon batch of an oatmeal stout 2 1/2 weeks ago. the batch fermented for 3 weeks. I notcied that my FG was pretty high. Well, now i have exploding bottles. Is there any way to save this batch? I tried to uncap a couple bottles but they foamed up like crazy.

thanks Steve

I honestly don't know how you would be able to save it... Drink it all before they all explode.

You should have leave it ferment a bit more, if you noticed at too high FG. 3 weeks is not THAT long, especially if something have slowed the yeast, like a low temperature, a slow start, a too low pitching rate, etc... Some yeast strains work more slowly than others, too.

Get the all the bottles of stout in the fridge for a week...
Get your cooler and make a ice bath.
Cool your bottles in the cooler for acouple of hours til they are ice cold.
Once ice cold, make a small opening in the cap, vent out the extra gas and recap..shouldn't foam too much this way either...
Might take a acouple of times...
Just did this last week....
